EDMONDS, Wash.  – Art Wong and Kathleen Solum, owners of Edmonds Vision Center, were presented with a Patriot Award, by Michael Kidd, volunteer for the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in recognition of their support of their employees serving in the Washington National Guard.

Wong and Solum were nominated by Washington National Guardsman Sgt. Jeremy Dennis, optician at Edmonds Vision Center.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Kidd. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“My employers always support me when it comes to my service,” said Dennis.  “They send care packages and check with my spouse while I was on deployment.”

“National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units,” said Kidd. “By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.”

They are always asking what they can do to support me in my civilian and army life,” said Dennis. “I could not ask for a better employer to work with me in my service to my country.”

“We are proud of Jeremy’s service in support of Washington State and out country,” said Wong.  “Jeremy is an outstanding employee,” added Solum.  He and his family are part of our family.”
