BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior Chief Petty Officer Hiroshi Asato, U.S. Navy Reserve, nominated his supervisor, Satoru “San” Asato for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award. The Award was presented recently by Asato at the McNellis & Asato, Ltd office in Bloomington.
The Patriot Award was in recognition of the support Asato received throughout his training and deployments with the U.S. Navy Reserve.
Asato stated, "San, my father, and president/managing principal of our firm, has allowed unlimited military leave for those serving, continuing 100% pay and benefits while on orders. With less than two days’ notice, I received orders for 29 days during the height of COVID-19 to fill an essential billet that was gapped. With restriction of movement in place, both on the front and back-end, this resulted in 59 days of unplanned leave from my workplace. My father and my team stepped up to fill in the gaps that resulted from this short-fused requirement. Could have not done it without their support. Separate from above, I was gone for more than 55 additional days throughout the year, cumulatively, attending military conferences, active-duty support missions, annual training, and more. To help fill-in the gaps that resulted from my military duties on an ongoing basis, San authorized me to hire two additional staff members onto my team, Jennie Kim and Steven Smith."
