ESGR in the News

BILLINGS, Mont. – Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Bureau Chief Gary Seder and Section Supervisor Andrew Yedinak, received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award recently for their extraordinary support they provide their employee Montana Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Mike Baum. The awards were presented on behalf of the Department of Defense by Montana ESGR volunteer Brynn Schwarz.

The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to recognize civilian employers who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.

“As a member of the Air National Guard, within the last year, I have been called for short notice duty on multiple occasions,” stated Baum in the nomination. “My absence from the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) can sometimes cause a burden because of my unique position and complex workload. Some supervisors or employers may discourage or guilt guard members from accomplishing the mission. That is not a concern at DCI, especially with my current Chief, Gary Seder and Section Supervisor Andrew Yedinak. They have shown absolute support for my guard duties.”

The awards presentations were made at the Billings DCI office, to the surprise of Seder and Yedinak, who thought they were there for a different meeting with the National Guard. DCI Agent Mike Baum, the National Guard member who nominated his supervisors, was also able to attend, as was DCI Administrator, Bryan Lockerby.

The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) at the Montana Department of Justice is involved in many aspects of Montana law enforcement and is integral to the Department of Justice’s mission of promoting public safety.

National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units. By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers. For more information about ESGR, outreach programs call (800) 336-4590 or visit www.ESGR.mil.
