WASHINGTON – Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III named Cameron Glass, Inc. one of the 15 recipients of the 2021 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, in recognition of the organization’s exemplary support for its National Guard and Reserve employees.
“I am proud to salute the outstanding employers who have earned the distinction of being named Freedom Award recipients as we mark the 25th year of this highly coveted recognition,” said Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III. “The men and women of the National Guard and Reserve make significant contributions to our communities and our national security through their civilian and military careers. We owe a debt of gratitude to these exemplary employers, who by valuing and supporting their employees’ military service, enhance the strength, readiness, and diversity of our National Guard and Reserve forces.”
Cameron Glass along with 14 other recipients were selected from 3,382 nominations received from Guardsmen and Reservists highlighting how their civilian employers went far beyond what the federal law requires to support them. Celebrating its 25th year, the Freedom Award began in 1996 under the auspices of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve to recognize exceptional employer support, with 310 honorees to date.
Cameron Glass supports their military employees with differential pay during an employee’s military service, and with flexible and general leave and scheduling. In addition, Cameron Glass publicly recognizes their military employees’ service and hosts celebrations prior to and following deployments. As a tight knit, family oriented company, employees regularly check in on and take care of Service members’ families while the Service member is deployed or away for training.
“I am extremely grateful for all Cameron Glass has done to support currently serving military members and veterans,” said Oklahoma Army National Guard Capt. Chris Ashwood, who nominated Cameron Glass, Inc. for the award. “Cameron Glass consistently demonstrates unparalleled support for military members through deployments, state active duty missions, and training missions. All levels throughout the company display a sincere respect for the ever increasing demand of serving in the modern military force.”
Cameron Glass president and CEO Jim Cameron underscored how important National Guard and Reserve members are to their workforce. “Cameron Glass is honored to be a recipient of the Freedom Award, the U.S. Government’s highest recognition for extraordinary support to Guard and Reserve employees,” said Cameron. “It is with great pride that our Guard and Reserve employees unite with their co-workers to manufacture glass products used in marine, farming and construction equipment industries to keep America’s economy strong and vibrant!”
The award will be presented to Cameron Glass, Inc. by Ray Knapp, Chair of the Oklahoma ESGR State Committee.
