ESGR in the News

OMAHA, Neb. – Deborah and Kevin McNear, owners of 24/2 Child Care Center, received a Nebraska Committee Award for Outstanding Performance by Lou Wagner and Ron Strawn, volunteers with Nebraska Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) committee.

The McNear’s were nominated by Petty Officer 2nd Class Salomey Gyamfi, a member of the United States Navy Reserve.

Gyamfi writes, “My son was 14 months when I enrolled him into this daycare and I left for deployment.  At that time my son’s eating habits were very poor.  I was so worried about leaving him like that but they assured me they would do their best to make sure he eats well, and they did. My husband was the primary care giver and he worked full-time.  He worked long hours and sometimes he couldn’t pick him up on time.  The owners went the extra mile of staying past their closing time with no additional charge to us to help him out. Overall, they were wonderful to husband and son. Their help made my deployment successful.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. For more information about ESGR outreach programs or volunteer opportunities, visit
