ESGR in the News

NEWPORT, Vt. – On behalf of the Vermont committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, ESGR volunteer Dan Pipes was joined by the Vermont adjutant general, Brig. Gen. Greg Knight and Command Sgt. Maj. Nathan Chipman to present a Patriot Award to the area manager of Portland Glass. Accepting the award on behalf of recipient Jason Brochu was his brother Jamie Brochu.

Jason Brochu received the award for the extraordinary support he provides his employee, Spc. Jake Parenteau, who serves in the Vermont National Guard's law and order detachment.

"The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation's call to serve," said Pipes, Vermont ESGR's Military Outreach Director. "Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation's Guard and Reserve units."

Parenteau stated: "My boss is always extremely appreciative about my service and never bats an eye when I have to take time off from work for military training. He is also genuinely interested in what I do in the military and has always made accommodations for me."

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
