SPOKANE, Wash. – SCAFCO Corporation President Larry Stone, and supervisors Wade Deatherage and Reid Brown were presented with a Patriot Award Aug. 4 by Ken Isaak, a volunteer with the Washington Employer Support of the Guard in recognition of extraordinary support of his employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.

The three supervisors were nominated for being highly supportive of their Reserve Component employee Master Sgt. Joel Dauer, Washington Air National Guardsman.

The Patriot Award publicly recognizes individuals who provide outstanding support of their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve. “This is a grassroots award, where employers are nominated by a service member, it also reflects the support the military member gets from their co-workers,” Isaak said. “The Guard and Reserve simply could not do their mission without that support.”

“In the past, I have had employers who have not been supportive of my military service, and now, it has been different from the start of working for SCAFCO,” said Dauer. “I have felt supported from day one.”

Additionally, Stone took the opportunity to sign an ESGR Statement of Support.  The Statement of Support confirms SCAFCO Corporation joins other employers in pledging:

We fully recognize, honor and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).

We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.

We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.

We will continually recognize and support our country’s Service members and their families, in peace, in crises and in war.

“Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units” said Isaak. “I am asking all Washington employers to take a look at their current human resources policies to incorporate policies supportive of Guard and Reserve employees. Many Washington employers provide support above and beyond what is required by law by offering pay differential to offset the loss of wages, and extension of health care benefits, which complement coverage provided by the military, when their employees are mobilized.”

When asked about the criteria, Isaak stated “By meeting the Statement of Support criteria, SCAFCO Corporation pledges to stand proudly with its Guard and Reserve employees, who continue to answer their nation’s call to defend our way of life.  Their personal sacrifices are essential to the strength of our nation.”

“SCAFCO Corporation joins a cadre of Fortune 500 companies, state and federal agencies and thousands of America’s employers in demonstrating support for our armed forces,” stated Isaak.  “By signing the Statement of Support, President Stone is sending a clear message to the employees of SCAFCO Corporation that while they are serving their country they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs.”

ESGR provides education, mediation, and recognition of supportive employers of Guard and Reserve employees. More information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs and volunteer opportunities is available at www.esgr.mil, or by calling 800-336-4590.
