HONOLULU – Hawaii Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve State Chair Bob Lee hosted an employer awards and recognition event July 26 at the Pomaikai Ballrooms at Dole Cannery.

“Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units. Providing a secure job environment to America’s citizen warriors is one way we can all serve,” said Lee. “I am asking all Hawaii employers to consider the talents a Guard or Reserve member or spouse could bring to their organization.”

Employers from across the State were recognized for their support of our Guardsmen and Reservists in front of component commanders of the Hawaii National Guard, United States Army, Navy and Coast Guard Reserve.

Attendees at the event included: Brig. Gen. Douglas Anderson, 9th Mission Support Command, Commander, United States Army Reserve; Brig. Gen. Ryan Okahara, Hawaii Air National Guard, Commander; Brig. Gen. Keith Tamashiro, Hawaii Army National Guard, Commander; Capt. Mark Murakami, United States Coast Guard Reserve, Senior Reserve Officer; and Cmdr. James MacDonald, Naval Operations Support Center, Commander.

Lee recognized, BAE Systems, WorkHawaii, Kamehameha Schools – Kapalama, Honolulu Police Department, McKenna Recovery Center, and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol as Freedom Award nominees for the continued support provided to their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserves.

Capt. Gregory Burton, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard Commander accepted the Freedom Award Semi-Finalist certificate and the Pro Patria Award.  As one of the largest employers in the State of Hawaii, the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard was recognized for its continued support of the many men and women serving in the National Guard and Reserve.

ESGR seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
