Madera County Office of Education supervisor receives Patriot Award

MADERA, Calif. – Supervisor Opie Riar from Madera County Office of Education was presented with a Patriot Award June 15 by Jack Davidson, volunteer for the California Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in recognition of extraordinary support of their employee.

Riar was nominated for being highly supportive of the California Army National Guard by Sgt. Edgar Dayuday.

The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve.

“Supportive employers, like Supervisor Daniel Silva, are vital to the success of our mission and the defense of this nation,” said James Combs, California ESGR state chair. “Our Guard and Reserve members could not perform their military duty without knowing their civilian employer supports them 100 percent.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
