BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense program, announced Julian Keller, Titan Machinery of Bismarck supervisor, was honored with a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of his currently deployed employee, Spc. Joseph Petermann, North Dakota Army National Guard.
Steve Miller, ESGR Bismarck Committee co-chair, arranged the presentation. Miller stated, “We are honored and humbled to present you with this prestigious award. We appreciate your commitment to the military and support by recognizing the importance of allowing your civilian Soldier to be prepared and militarily ready to protect our Freedoms.”
Keller’s nomination reads: “Julien went above and beyond what was needed for when I required time off for military obligations. From allowing me to leave early from work to start my four hour drive early, to letting me take extended lunch breaks to complete on-line training for our upcoming mobilization.”
“I went to Wisconsin for six weeks of Military Occupational Specialty Qualification and three weeks in Florida for additional Military Occupational Specialty training and he gave me, without questioning anything, adequate time to pack and prepare for leaving for an extended amount of time. Julien has been more than supportive of me anytime I even mention something military that comes up, and for that I feel like he should receive higher recognition.”
Keller stated, “Joseph is one of my best trained, most reliable employees. He has tremendous work ethic. I would not hesitate to hire anyone who is serving in the military. If I could do my own life over again, I would have made a career in the military myself. I am very proud to have employees that serve in the military and am honored to receive the Patriot Award.”
“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who, like the citizen warriors before then, have answered their nation’s call to serve. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units,” said Miller.
ESGR seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve of the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for the National Guard and Reserve by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate with Department of Defense.
